This course is for participants (who have completed an approved Introduction to Rigging and Slinging course) who is interested or is required to conduct pre-checks, post-checks as well as operate an excavator safely and efficiently in accordance with the Brunei Shell P.L.I.C. The course also refreshes and updates participants with any changes in safety and operational procedures.
COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
· Be aware and use of correct PPE
· Be able to undertake pre-start and pre-operational checks of an excavator in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
· Be able to undertake scheduled cleaning and operator maintenance in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
· Understand the tagging, recording and reporting procedure in the event of a fault or breakdown
· Demonstrate and understand the principles of lifting dynamics (centre of gravity and stability) in relation to BSP procedures and according to pertinent loads
· Be able to read and understand data/compliance plates, load indicators, SWL principles
· Demonstrate and understand all warning devices and alarms
· Understand the safe operation of an excavator in different work environments including on-shore and off-shore facilities
· Be able to check and identify for hazards and control where possible - `KNOW YOUR WORKPLACE’ – ground condition, underground, excavations
· Be able to barricade and ensure non-essential personnel and plant are not permitted to enter work area
· Gain an understanding of load characteristics, soil types, load mass and correct loading techniques
· Demonstrate all movements
· Demonstrate excavator operation techniques – trenching, backfilling, battering, in muddy conditions, lifting loads, mobiling loads
· Use different attachments
· Operation in restricted/confined space and recognize blind spots
· Drive on and off low loader.
· Conduct post operational checks and shut down procedures.
