The objectives of this course are centered on the requirements outlined in the HAZWOPER regulation. Each unit is based on one or more of the following requirements.
Upon completion of this program, the participants will have demonstrated the following:
· An understanding of what hazardous substances are, and the risks associated with them in an incident;
· An understanding of the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are present;
· The ability to identify the hazardous substances, if possible; and
· What to do in a suspicious situation.
As a first responder you may be called upon by your employer for advice on handling a suspicious incident. In this course you will learn about how to use Emergency Response Guide Book (ERG) to deal with the situation.
It’s important to distinguish between first responder level with other levels of HAZMAT training. At this level, first responders are expected to recognize a hazardous spill, notify emergency personnel and help secure and evacuate the area and are not expected or trained to take any further action.
