COURSE CODE: MAR-18

AIMS            

  • To provide the trainees with the essential basic knowledge and experience of personal survival principles and techniques that can be applied to maximize their chances of survival in the event of a marine casualty as well as to provide the training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship as part of the ship’s complement with designated fire prevention and fire-fighting duties.
  • This course meets the mandatory requirement of providing evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column I of Tables A-VI/1-1 and A-VI/I-2, of the STCW 78, as amended.

 

OBJECTIVES

On completion of the course the trainee should be able to show the thorough understanding of and ability to perform the following duties: -

  • Don a lifejacket
  • Board a survival craft from ship and water while wearing a lifejacket
  • Take initial actions on boarding a survival craft to enhance chance of survival
  • Operate the survival craft equipment
  • Operate location devices, including radio equipment
  • Use self-contained breathing apparatus
  • Successfully perform a rescue in a smoke-filled space, while wearing a SCBA
