AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The aim of this module is to provide the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely and efficiently.
Learning Outcomes:
To successfully complete this module, participants are required to meet all the specified learning outcomes listed below:
• Legal regulations that apply to forklift truck operations
• Classes of forklift trucks
• Forklift truck components
• Controls & instruments
• Starting, moving & stopping
• Steering
• Hydraulic systems
• Truck stability
• Pre - use & pre - operation inspections
• Load weight assessment
• Handling laden & unladen pallets
• Lifting from ground level
• Lifting from height
• Driving on / off ramps
• Vehicle loading / unloading
• Manoeuvering in confined spaces
• Safe fueling and / or charging procedures
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
Participants attending the forklift truck operation training shall be given a series of explanations and demonstrations. At the end of the course participants shall be given a theory questionnaire to assess their understanding of the knowledge elements specified in the learning outcomes.
The assessment is an open book and a pass mark of 80% must be attained.
Participants must also undergo a practical assessment which requires them to demonstrate:
• The skills required to carry out a pre - use inspection of the forklift truck
• The correct use of all controls
• The correct positioning of the forklift truck in readiness to make a lift
• The skills required to lift, travel, lower a load from location “A” to location “B”
