COURSE CODE: MIL-4
This course provides participants the basic competence to survive at sea in an abandon ship situation. Participants will be educated on the principles concerning sea survival, the types of emergency situations such as collisions, fire and foundering as well as the types of lifesaving appliances normally carried onboard ships. Participants will also be trained on the operation of the main types of equipment contained in life rafts as well as the correct use of personel protective clothing (e.g. survival [immersion] suits). Participants will be educated on the alarm systems utilised in an emergency situation and be trained on the actions to be taken when launching and on board life rafts as well as actions to be taken in the water, i.e. personal survival techniques. Participants will also be educated on the the main dangers of short and long-term water immersion.
