COURSE CODE: MH-48
This course is designed to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to operate a container crane (gantry crane) on Brunei onshore facilities. The course will also refresh and update participants in the most recent updates in procedures and safety in operating/ checking of container cranes.
COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
· Explained the Government Laws and Regulations
· Use of correct PPE
· Be able to list and explain the key HSE requirements specific to lifting operations
· Have a knowledge of the Company HSE policy
· Have knowledge of how to carry out hazard identification and assessÂment of controls needed to execute the lifting operation
· Have knowledge of the need for Permit to Work required
· Have knowledge of the 10 questions for a safe lift
· Be able to undertake risk assessment relating to various lifts and hazards encountered
· Understand and be fully aware of the different methods for on-site communications, including hand signals and radio used within the company
· Be able to list and explain the principles of lifting dynamics (balancing and stability) and security for the safe lifting, shifting and placement of typical workplace loads
· Be able to refer to and understand relevant manufacturers or compaÂnies handbooks and manuals
· Be able to carry out Pre and Post operational checks as per enterprise and manufacturers requirements
· Be able to understand the requirements of routine cleaning and opÂerator inspections on specific cranes
· Be able to explain what actions must be taken in the event of a breakÂdown and or identify faults on their cranes
· Be able to understand and explain the applications of the crane load chart and correct and safe use of load cell indicators.
· Be able to understand the principles of safe lifting to determine incorÂporating capacities and capabilities on specific cranes
· Be able to demonstrate safe and smooth movement of the crane into position
· Be able to undertake correct set-up procedure including checking ground conditions, stabilizer and packing set up undertake appropriate checks
· Be able to determine the capabilities of cranes by reading and underÂstanding respective load charts
· Be able to identify from a variety of load shapes and densities a cranes limitations using load charts
· Be able to comprehend simple and complex lift plans
· Be able to safely operate crane under supervision of a competent Banksman
· Be able to demonstrate:
1. Pick and carry operations
2. Forward / Backward
3. Landing loads onto pre-determined landing points including: ground level; below ground level; in confined or restricted space; over obstacles; blindly (under direction of Banksman)
· Demonstrate and explain the safe use of specified crane clutches
· Be able to demonstrate and explain the effect and strategies to conÂtrol the effects of bad weather on dynamic loads
· Be able to identify and explain the safety devices fitted on the crane
