Studying the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management


Who is the course for?

Given the hazardous nature of these industries, this qualification has been designed to give process safety knowledge and understanding to managers, supervisors and safety professionals to allow them to manage their process safety responsibilities.


This qualification is not designed for process safety/chemical engineers with extensive operational experience of working within the processing environment. It is advised that learners should already have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety, and many will hold another NEBOSH qualification.


What will I learn?

The four day NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management course covers the following topics:

• Process safety leadership

• Management of change

• Competence

• Management of process risk

• Process safety hazard control

• Fire and explosion protection

How much time do I need to dedicate to my studies?

The Process Safety Management qualification is a four day course. Tuition (classroom) time is 28 hours. Recommended home study is 20 hours (this will typically be made up of tutor set homework and self-guided study). Total study hours is 48 hours.


How will I be assessed?

The Process Safety Management course is assessed by a 90 minute online multiple choice examination. The exam will be taken place after the course on a separate day. Full details of the assessments will be given during the course with time put aside to fully brief students on the requirements of the assessment.

Pre-requisites: Candidates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests in order to be accepted onto an HSE Certificate in Process Safety programme.
