COURSE CODE: OFF-26/5903

The aims and objectives of the training are to ensure that the learner gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) and appropriate practical emergency response actions to take should the requirement for emergency deployment arise including in water exercises.

COURSE OUTCOMES

On completion of the course, learners will be able to:

• Explain the fundamental differences between re-breather and compressed air systems (technology and use)

• Explain the rationale and use of compressed air emergency breathing systems in helicopter emergency situation

• Explain the hazards associated with compressed air emergency breathing systems

• Demonstrate a Pre-Flight inspection of the life jacket and CA-EBS in dry environment

• Demonstrate donning the life jacket with CA-EBS correctly, including ‘buddy check’ in dry environment

• Demonstrate an emergency deployment of the CA-EBS in a dry environment

• Deploy CA-EBS (above the water surface) and breathing from the CA-EBS in a pool, face down in shallow water (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest)

• Deploy CA-EBS (below the water surface, face down in a pool in shallow water) and clearing the mouthpiece by exhaling under the water surface (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest

• Deploying CA-EBS (below the water surface, face down in a pool in shallow water, using opposite hand to previous exercise) and clearing with purge button under the water surface (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest)

• Deploy CA-EBS (above water surface), in a pool and breathing from CA-EBS underwater in a vertical position (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest)

• Deploy CA-EBS (underwater), in a pool and breathing from CA-EBS underwater in a vertical position (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest)

• Deploy CA-EBS (underwater), in a pool, breathing from CA-EBS underwater, and moving along a horizontal rail for a period of no less than 30 seconds, including a change in direction (at a maximum depth of 0.7m, measured at the chest).

The Shallow Water CA-EBS ID certificate is valid for up to four years but will only remain valid in conjunction with a valid OPITO T-BOSIET, T-FOET, T-HUET, BOSIET, FOET or HUET with EBS (or Industry agreed equivalent) certificate.
