The aim of the course is to provide the participant with thorough knowledge and fundamental skills for undertaking control of firefighting operations on Jetty ; organizing and training fire parties, Inspection and visual servicing of fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment. Participant successfully completing this course will, in the event of a fire, be enabled to take command, organize the personnel effectively and control the firefighting operations time. The participant will also have acquired knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and maintain the fire extinguishing systems and equipment. At the end of this course ,the participant should have knowledge, understanding and proficiency in: • Firefighting procedures in port with particular emphasis on organization, tactics and command; • Communication and co-ordination during firefighting operations; • Ventilation control, including smoke extractor; • Control of fuel and Chemical. • Firefighting process hazards (dry distillation, chemical reactions, boiler uptake fires, etc.); • Fire precautions and hazards associated with the storage and handling of material (paints, etc.); • Management and control of injured persons; • Procedures for co-ordination with shore based fire fighters; • Hazardous products – overview • The classification of hazardous product • The characteristics of hazardous products including • Radiological hazards, Fire and Explosion Hazards, etc • Fuel installation fire including Boil-Over and BLEVE • Foam applications • The use of self-contained breathing apparatus set • Explosive meters: LEL/UEL • Personnel protective equipment, scene safety and scene control • Familiarization of portable and semi portable firefighting extinguisher • Familiarization of B.A equipment and test, inspection, donning and B.A control board tally procedures • Fires on pallet loads • Hazardous chemical handling incidents • Chemical Suit Familiarization with B.A Set • Casualty handling • Jetty Fire Control – Area of Fire Hazard damage control • Jetty Fire Control – Fire Precaution • Search Procedures • Static Electricity • Fire First Aid
