AIMS & OBJECTIVES: The aim of this module is to highlight and reinforce to the delegates the importance of inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment to ensure it remains safe for use between third party 6 monthly thorough examinations. Learning Outcomes: On completion of this training module the delegate should be able to explain: • the LOLER & PUWER requirements regarding lifting equipment inspections • the various types and construction of slings used in rigging activities • how various items of lifting equipment are marked for identification purposes • how to carry out pre - use inspections on various items of lifting equipment • the objectives and methods of colour coding items of lifting equipment • Identify and inspect various lifting & rigging equipment o Wire rope and synthetic slings o Shackles o Eyebolts o Cable clamps o Turnbuckles o Sheaves o Snatch blocks o Manual chain blocks o Manual lever hoists o Tirfors PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Delegates attending the Loose Lifting Equipment Inspection training shall be given a series of explanations and demonstrations. At the end of the course delegates shall be given a theory questionnaire to assess their understanding of the knowledge elements specified in the learning outcomes. The assessment is an open book and a pass mark of 80% must be attained. This module contains practical exercises in which the delegates must take an active part. Delegate performance in these practical exercises shall be evaluated against the course learning outcomes.
