The aim of this module is to provide delegates with a basic understanding of the legal requirements and equipment utilized in Lifting & Hoisting Operations.


Learning Outcomes:

  1. List & identify applicable legislations, law & regulations, international and local standards related to Lifting & Hoisting
  2. Identify the applicable BSJV Lifting & Hoisting Standards/ Procedures
  3. Explain the importance of training, gaining experience and skills to achieve competency
  4. Explain the common rigging terminologies:
  5. Explain briefly the roles & responsibilities of a typical Lifting Crew (PIC, Rigging Supervisor, Banksman, Crane Operator, Rigger & Lift Planner)
  6. Describe a typical reporting structure of the Lifting Crew
  7. Explain the importance of having Lift Plans and Work Permits
  8. Identify & list different types of Lifting Equipment (appliances and accessories) for use on BSJV sites
  9. Explain the basic hitches used in rigging operations
  10. Explain the purpose of inspections & thorough examinations of Lifting Equipment
  11. The purpose of colour coding lifting equipment
  12. The importance of controlling and issuing of lifting equipment
